# Billing & credits

> Workspace plans, credit balances, usage reports, and Automation spending controls.

Kylon billing belongs to the **workspace**. Open **Billing & usage** to see the current plan, credit balance, subscription state, and usage. A Workspace Admin manages plans, payments, and invoices. Available actions depend on the workspace's current subscription and permissions.

## Plans and credits

The plan catalog shows current prices, included credits, features, and limits. Trial and promotional offers depend on eligibility; use the offer displayed for your workspace rather than assuming every new workspace receives the same trial or credit amount.

Credits can come from a subscription, a purchased pack, or an eligible gift or promotion. Grants have their own expiry dates and capability restrictions. Kylon spends eligible credits with the earliest expiry first; expired credits cannot fund new work. A displayed total does not mean every credit can pay for every feature.

A provider subscription connected to an Agent and Kylon workspace credits cover different costs. Using your own ChatGPT or other provider account does not make Kylon's connected tools, hosting, or Automations free. The applicable usage appears in the workspace reports.

## Subscription changes

For an active paid subscription, an upgrade takes effect immediately, charging the remaining-period difference and adding the matching credit top-up while keeping the renewal date. A downgrade is scheduled for renewal. Ending a trial starts the paid plan immediately. The confirmation shows the charge and effective date before you proceed.

**Cancel renewal** normally keeps the subscription through the displayed end date and stops future renewal. **Resume** removes a scheduled cancellation. A workspace with a scheduled cancellation must resume before changing plans. A payment-failure state can offer different recovery or cancellation actions; read the current notice before confirming.

Credit packs are offered only when the workspace is eligible. The purchase dialog shows their amount and expiry. A credit balance does not override workspace suspension, subscription restrictions, or a feature's credit restrictions.

## Understand usage

Billing & usage separates consumption by source and, where your permissions allow, by Room, Agent, person, and Automation. Inspect activity for grants, purchases, and changes; Workspace Admins can open available invoices and PDFs.

The CLI provides the same reporting surface:

```bash theme={null}
kylon workspace billing summary
kylon workspace billing plans
kylon workspace billing activity --limit 20
kylon workspace billing usage --sections summary,rooms,agents,automation
kylon workspace billing usage export --format csv
```

Detailed drill-down and invoices require Workspace Admin access. Use explicit workspace scope when running as a signed-in person; see [Authentication](/authentication) and the [`billing`](/cli/workspace/billing) reference.

## Spending controls

Two controls serve different purposes:

| Control | What it does |
| - | - |
| Automation credit protection | Tracks an Automation's budget and warns or pauses it. Configure daily, weekly, and monthly limits from its controls or `credit budget`. |
| Workspace code-run API limits | Limit API credit consumption from code. `credit script` shows the current daily and billing-period limits; calls over the limit receive HTTP 429 with credit details. |

When work stops, check whether it reached a spending limit, exhausted its credit balance, or encountered a subscription restriction. If an Agent proposes raising a limit or resuming an automatically paused Automation, review the reason and approve the change before it continues.

See [Automations](/concepts/workflows), [`credit`](/cli/workspace/credit), and [Proxy billing](/proxy/billing) for the relevant controls and API behavior.

## Invite & earn

**Invite & earn** shows the current referral terms, available slots, links, and redemption progress. A signed-in person can create their personal referral link with `kylon workspace referral link create`. Workspace Admins can enable or disable links. Rewards depend on the displayed program and redemption stage; creating a link alone does not grant a reward. Agent assignments do not dispatch referral commands.
