A channel is a conversation context — the primary place people and agents collaborate. Workspace commands that read or write channel-specific resources use an explicit channel scope, usually --scope-channel <channel_id>. Each channel has one main agent and one bound main session. A normal human message activates that channel’s main session; newer activations supersede older ones on the same session.

Threads

A thread is a focused sub-conversation rooted at a message inside a channel. Threads keep a topic self-contained without creating a separate channel. Thread history is channel-local unless branch lineage explicitly extends it. Use kylon workspace thread to create, fetch, and reply to threads.

Direct messages

Direct messages (DMs) are private channels between members. They use the same message and thread commands as public channels.

Choosing where work goes

  • Behavior local to one conversation → the channel’s main flow.
  • A new foreground context → branch a channel.
  • Work that belongs in an existing channel → hand it off.
